Searching for California arrest records using the state’s resources

Many states offer online tools that allow you to search for current inmates statewide.  California is no exception. The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation operates a computerized prison records search tool which can be accessed here. Using an inmate’s assigned number, or by using their name (a surname is a minimum requirement), you can find admission dates and locations of individuals who are currently imprisoned in CA correctional facilities.

Finding current and former detainees in county jails

For example, you can trace Los Angeles County arrest records by using the Sheriff’s online Inmate Information Center. It shows charges, booking and release date, bail and court dates.

You can find San Diego County arrest records in a similar manner by referring to the sheriff’s “Who is in Jail” tool. This is a searchable data bank that includes the county’s arrestees, their booking and release date, case / charge information and bond.
